Portuguese Farmers’ Confederation (Agricultures de Portugal, CAP) joining together 300 agricultural organizations from all the Portuguese regions, presented 11 Portuguese vineyards in Saint-Petersburg and Moscow.
CAP represents the Portuguese agricultural sector in structure of European Union and Europe organizations in principle. The Union has short-term plans concerning long-term cooperation with Russia. With the purpose to confirm these intentions Mr. Luís Capoulas Santos, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development of Portugal, visited Russia specifically to promote events held by CAP.
On February 4th, the Portuguese Wines Salon took place in Grand Hotel Emerald in Saint-Petersburg (Suvorov prospect, 18). Portuguese winemakers from Alentejo, Douro and Vinho Verde regions presented their production to alcohol experts from North-Western regions from Russia:
Adega de Favaios (Douro Region), Caves Santa Marta (Douro Region), Casa Santos Lima (Lisboa Region), Encostas de Alqueva (Alentejo Region), Parra Wines – (Vinho Verde, Douro, Dão, Alentejo, Lisboa, Tejo, Peninsula de Steubal region), Quinta da Lixa – (Vinho Verde Region), Quinta da Raza (Vinho Verde Region), Quinta das Arcas (Vinho Verde and Alentejo Regions), Real Companhia Velha (Douro Region), Viniverde (Vinho Verde Region), Wine&Soul (Douro Region).
Before the Salon opening there was the Portuguese wines master-class conducted by Leonid Gelibterman, the president of the International Center of Wine and Gastronomy, and Tatyana Sharapova, the enologist and the director of “Pro Sommelier” school.
The number of people wanting to attend the master-class exceeded the number of quotes announced by the administrators. The boom was well spent, the high quality vintages such as Pintas Character 2013 (Wine&Soul), produced from 30 different grape varieties, and Moscatel Colheita 1999 (Adega de Favaios) were presented to the master-class participants. The Portuguese Wines Salon was attended by more than 400 people including the alcohol experts from Saint-Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Tver, Rostov-on-Don and Yaroslavl as well as Russian companies’ representatives – importers, sommeliers, hoteliers and journalists. Business program ended by the gastronomic dinner in “Palkin” restaurant (Nevsky pt, 47). The guests were provided with special menus matching to Portuguese wines not presented in the Russian market yet. The Portuguese vineyards representatives had an opportunity to present their wines and to get opinions of the audience. Leonid Gelibterman and Igor Sharbatov, the president of the Saint-Petersburg Sommeliers Association, became the dinner moderators.
On February 9th, the gastronomic dinner matching to Portuguese wines from CAP winemakers took place in the “BEATR!CE” restaurant (Blagoveschenskiy per., 1A), that was the first restaurant in Moscow which got the Slow Food honors. The Russia at this event was presented by heads of the companies-importers, eminent chief-sommeliers and specialized media representatives. The dinner was attended by Mr. Luís Capoulas Santos, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development of Portugal, and by his Excellency Mário Godinho de Matos, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Portugal to Russia. Leonid Gelibterman and Margarita Krasnopolskaya, the first person from Russia, who gained the WSET Level 4 diploma in 2010, became the moderators of the dinner.
The business program in Saint-Petersburg and Moscow was prepared by the Portuguese marketing agency Opal and the International Center of Wine and Gastronomy.
