On the 3rd of June at the Antwerp city hall with the support of mayor of the city Mr. Bart de Bever the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the visit of the Russian Emperor Peter the First in this Belgian city were held. In honor of such a momentous date, the Russian Ambassador to Belgium Alexander Tokovinin gave a solemn social function, to which the President of the International Center of Wine and Gastronomy was also invited.
The audience was pleased with the performance of folk music bands from Russia, and for fans of intellectual sports, took place an international chess tournament with simultaneous games. The competition was held by the twelfth world chess champion, international grandmaster Anatoly Karpov.
The solemn event was accompanied by a gastronomic festival «The mysteries of the Kremlin cuisine», an exhibition of Russian samovars, as well as a master class for guests from Leonid Gelibterman about Russian vodkas and distillates.
The holiday, dedicated to the anniversary of the visit of Peter the Great in Antwerp, attracted the large audience of politicians, businessmen, figures of science and culture, representatives of mass media. It is noteworthy, that currently in Belgium there are two monuments to the Russian Emperor, in Antwerp and in Brussels, opposite the Royal Palace.
