At the end of August 2017 the Russian city of Kaliningrad will host the International Forum on Gastronomy Tourism and Street Food. This event is organized by the Government of the Kaliningrad region together with the International Center of Wine and Gastronomy, the Russian National Culinary Association and the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia. The forum is supported by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
This international event will bring together experts, entrepreneurs, representatives of the hospitality and tourism industry, chefs, restaurateurs, journalists and public authorities from Europe, Asia and Latin America. The sessions of the forum are informed by a series of keynote speakers, including Viktor Belyaev, the President of the Russian National Culinary Association; Igor Bukharov, the President of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia; Leonid Gelibterman, the President of the International Center of Wine and Gastronomy; Susan Parham, Head of Urbanism at the University of Hertfordshire; Marisa Ramos Abascal, outstanding Mexican researcher in gastronomy tourism. The President of the World Association of Chefs’ Societies Thomas Gugler is invited to take part in the forum and to give a talk on significance of street food for attraction of tourists.
The forum in Kaliningrad aims to discuss current challenges and trends in gastronomy tourism including development of food brands, promotion of local cuisine and the growth of street food movement. During two days of lectures and workshops the participants of the forum will have an opportunity to exchange views on the role of gastronomy tourism in regional development and on the mechanisms to strengthen this role. The debate will be driven by presentation of best practices and cases from around the globe. The street food movement of the Kaliningrad region will serve as an example of a development driver of regional tourism.
The forum will conclude with the Kaliningrad Street Food Weekend (September 1–3) which is the major annual three-day event with the audience of 50 000 people. Famous Russian and international chefs will take part in this event and demonstrate different approaches to street food during outdoor workshops in the centre of this Baltic city.
