On August 24 and 26, the Central Square near the House of Soviets of the "amber capital of Russia" turned into a real gastronomic holiday. The 4th International festival "Urban picnic Street Food Weekend 2018" was held in Kaliningrad.
The Street food festival, which changed its location from Kant Island to a new square in the city center, has become even more massive this year. The guests of the festival were presented by the products of street fooders from Armenia, Belarus, Lithuania, Poland and different regions of Russia. More than 60 projects from morning to late evening served everyone dishes of different cuisines of the world — from Uzbek pilaf to Mexican burritos, from Serbian pancakes to Udmurt pies, from vegan salads to smoked fish. About 60 000 people were the guests of the festival in the open air.
By tradition, in frames of the festival a competition Russian Street Food Awards was held. The panel of judges included Leonid Gelibterman, President of the International Center of Wine and Gastronomy, Igor Bukharov, President of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia, and Ksenia Karaulova, owner of the restaurant house "Buloshnaya" (Moscow).
It is noteworthy that the analytical agency "TourStat" included the Kaliningrad Urban picnic Street Food Weekend 2018 in the top 10 gastronomic and culinary festivals in Russia.
